Cast iron and steel are both iron-carbon alloys, and their differences mainly lie in the carbon content. Iron and carbon alloy with carbon content less than 2% is called steel, and iron with carbon content more than 2%. Cast iron has proper fusibility and good liquid fluidity, so it can be cast into parts with complex shapes. In addition, it has good shock absorption, wear resistance and machinability (gray cast iron) and low cost, so it is widely used in mechanical manufacturing. Commonly used cast iron includes gray cast iron, nodular cast iron, malleable cast iron, alloy cast iron, etc. Gray cast iron and nodular cast iron are brittle materials and cannot be rolled or forged. Among the above cast iron, gray cast iron is widely used, followed by nodular cast iron.
